Public node vs own node
Wallet 0.2.1 connects to the public node node.zecnero.org by default.
Public node
Pros: works straight away, no download, no disk space.
Cons: you trust the node operator for the data the wallet sees. The node can see your IP address and when your wallet connects and sends transactions. If the public node is down, your wallet can’t sync.
Your own node
Pros: your wallet only trusts your own copy of the chain, and no third party sees your wallet’s requests.
Cons: you need to install and run zecnerod and keep it updated through network upgrades.
Pointing the wallet at your own node
Your node’s RPC listens on 127.0.0.1:18732 on testnet (8732 on Mainnet). Keep it on localhost unless you know what you’re doing.
