Keeping up with network upgrades

Network upgrades change consensus rules at a fixed block height. A node that isn’t upgraded before that height stops following the network.

Upgrades get at most 72 hours’ notice between release and activation. Plan for that.

Checklist

1. Follow announcements on Discord, X and the blog. Announcements are signed with the project key.
2. When a release is announced, download it and verify it.
3. Replace the binary and restart the node.
4. Confirm the node reports the new version and keeps syncing.
5. If you run a pool, update the pool software and miner at the same time.

After activation

Check that your node’s tip matches the explorer. If it has stalled at the activation height, you are on an old version.
