Backups and seed safety
Your seed phrase is the wallet. Anyone who has it can spend your coins. If you lose it and your computer fails, the coins are gone.
Write it down
- Write the seed on paper as soon as you create the wallet.
- Check every word against the screen.
- Store the paper somewhere safe from fire and water. Keep a second copy in a different place.
Don’t
- Don’t photograph it or store it in cloud notes, email or chat.
- Don’t paste it into a website. No one from the project will ever ask for it.
- Don’t type it into a computer you don’t control.
Test the backup
Restore the wallet from your written seed on the same machine before you receive meaningful amounts. If the restored wallet shows the same addresses, the backup works.
TODO
Document the restore steps and birthday height option in wallet 0.2.1, if it has one.
Scams
Be wary of anyone who messages you first. Ignore anyone offering to "validate", "sync" or "recover" your wallet. Testnet coins have no value, so anyone selling them is running a scam.
